FOCUS ON THESE FIVE CHRISTIAN VALUES
Our Christian faith teaches us many core values by which we are to live our lives, such as: honesty, faith, forgiveness, justice, hope, compassion, love, humility, service, and kindness, among others.
Those who engage in this mastermind will focus on five key touchpoints:
- Community. Jesus prays that we may be one as He and the Father are one. We are the Body of Christ. God has given us different gifts. We have different strengths. We use what we have to build up the body, and support one another.
- Trust. We trust God first. We learn to trust each other. We trust God to never leave us, to provide for us, to guide us.
- Integrity. “Let your yes be yes and your no be no” we are told. We will live honest, truthful lives according to God’s leading.
- Service. Jesus tells us he came to serve and not to be served. We will serve God, one another, the communities in which we live, and the people God places in our path. Our businesses are here to serve. The money with which God blesses us is a tool for serving.
- Love. The commandments of God are summarized this way, “Love the Lord your God, love your neighbor as yourself.” The ultimate value is love.
Over time, with study, prayer, and support, each of us in the mastermind will develop our capacity to live according to these five values. More and more we will make decisions and take actions in line with these touchpoints of our Christian faith.

We will build this mastermind together. I do bring extensive experience leading groups and facilitating masterminds, but before now, I have not integrated both Christian faith and real estate investing in a single group experience.
Through over twenty research calls with individual investors, I have discovered an unmet need — to align our faith and our lives with consistent integrity. We’ll work hard together so we can meet that need in the life of each member of our mastermind.
I expect every member to share ideas and suggest resources to make this better and better as we go along. Each of us will commit to bringing our best to the mastermind.
I am a “player/coach” working on my own real estate investing goals and seeking alignment of every aspect of my life with my Christian faith.
I am not a guru or expert. I simply offer my wisdom, experience, knowledge, insights, and energies along with yours and the others.
This experiment is at a reduced price from what I expect the investment to be after the concept is improved and proven to be effective. The beta test is limited to a max of 12 members.

WHO IS HARLAND MERRIAM
REAL ESTATE INVESTOR. I am an active real estate investor, with a focus on multifamily properties. I have owned a mobile home park, land, and a large apartment complex. Each of these I did as a managing partner. I currently have portfolio of single family homes, townhomes, and a triplex. I have been investing since the late 1970s following in the footsteps of my father and grandfather.
Currently I lead two “meetup” groups for investors. Both meet monthly. One is a broad group with a goal of helping new and experienced real estate investors in our part of Florida. The second is focused on linking up multifamily investors around the country.
PASTOR. I am a “repurposed” Pastor, having actively served for almost 50 years in churches and military units around the country. I am currently teaching two Bible studies with adults and preach every so often, but am not serving a church or a unit.
Drawing upon my experience as a Pastor and Military Chaplain over the past four decades, I commit to curating the right group for you. I will facilitate our regular meetings so we use our time well and are all actively engaging one another.
A FIRST MASTERMIND EXPERIENCE. Twenty years ago the Chief of Staff of the 75th Division, in which I served as Division Chaplain, pulled together the Colonels every week for a breakfast meeting. We built strong relationships, shared challenges, and helped one another with our common mission.
This was my first experience of a “mastermind”.
Over time, the senior leaders in the Division…
- quit trying to solve problems alone
- got out of our own heads and tapped into one another
- gained access to people who were trained differently, think differently, opened up new possibilities for each of us
- experienced the leadership of a skilled Chief of Staff
- became close friends, pulling for one another
- were accountable and supported to do our best
- achieved so much more than we would have separately
I ENGAGE IN MASTERMINDS. Since that first experience two decades ago, I have continued to seek out and participate in masterminds. The topics and styles change.
One was a five-year experience with other real estate investors, meeting quarterly with additional opportunities for smaller group learning, accountability partnerships, and role-playing
I have invested in and grown through three shorter-term masterminds on leading masterminds with three different experts. I am currently in a mastermind that meets weekly.
