Grateful Even for a Gray Morning

GRATEFUL EVEN FOR A GRAY MORNING

Gray skies greeted me this morning. Almost a mist in the air. The wind blowing from west to east.

Some may feel a little depressed with the gloominess of gray.

Can we be grateful even when it is gray?

I think so. As with much of life gratitude is a choice, at least for me. More than a fleeting feeling, you and I can choose to be thankful.

Isn’t it Paul who says, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (I Thessalonians 5:18) Cultivating this kind of gratitude requires a change of heart and mind, doesn’t it?

I noticed two Stetson students with cameras squatting down in a yard while I ran by this morning. They had spotted a beautiful red flower, a single bloom, yet so gorgeous. They were taking pictures in the gray light of the early morning. They were finding something for which to be grateful.

Look around with me. Let’s not let the gray diminish the wonder and appreciation and gratitude. Let’s invite joy and peace into our awareness.

What are you seeing that reminds you of how grateful you are?
