CROCUS AND DAFFODILS
We don’t really have them down here in Central Florida. I remember them when we lived in New Jersey and Virginia though.
Sometimes the crocus would poke up out of the snow in late winter. Still chilly days and more cold to come, but there they were, these first hints that spring was on the way.
And then there were the daffodils, another early bulb that would add color to the drab landscapes of wintertime.
In Vermont, the sap would start running if there were a few warmer days amidst the cold. Barbara and I remember being in a sugar shed drinking coffee made with sap and smelling the maple syrup simmering down to a rich amber in large trays over a fire.
There is still a bunch of winter ahead and yet these signs that Spring is coming.
