Her Work Was Her Calling

HER WORK WAS HER CALLING

Sue was a grandmother. Her calling, her work was to be a grandmother.

This was what God was calling her to be. Grandmothering was her profession, so to speak. Like any entrepreneur, she wanted to impact others for good.

She took it seriously. With all eight grandchildren. She traveled to see them. She wrote them notes. She called them on the phone, regularly. It was her job, her God-given line of work.

When Sue died, all eight of her grandchildren spoke of the impact she had on their lives.

We tend to think ministers, priests, and missionaries have a “calling”. And it is true, we do.

But, the truth is, you and Sue have been called by God, too. Your life has a purpose. Whether you are “working” or have retired, you have a calling. Your work is just as holy a profession as mine.

As the Apostle Paul says in Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…” Or as the prophet Jeremiah says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…”

What is your calling?
